5 Tips to Keep your Workplace Clean During Flu Season

Suzanne Whitton • October 7, 2022

The colder months are approaching, which means anything from the common cold or the flu, to Covid, could come your way. Don’t worry, we’ve got 5 tips to prevent them in your workplace.

Tips to Keep Clean During Flu Season

TIP 1:  Clean Touch Points Frequently

It goes without saying that regularly sanitising those frequently-touched areas of your office will prevent the spread of infections and viruses. However, this doesn’t just apply to those of communal use.

When it comes to preventing the spread of illness, it’s important to consider every surface on which bacteria can be spread. Everything from door handles and bannisters, to keyboards and computer mice, need to be regularly cleaned. A nasty bug can come from anywhere; it’s better to be safe than sorry.

TIP 2:  Keep Your Personal Workstation Tidy

It’s commonly understood that a messy space is rarely clean. Therefore, by removing clutter and keeping the space clear of anything that could sit gathering dust or bacteria, will ensure that your workplace actually remains clean.

It’s worth noting that this doesn’t just prevent the spread of illness, but also minimises the chance of accidents in your workplace. By removing all clutter and potential hazards, you’ll make sure the space is safer & more sanitary.

TIP 3:  Provide Additional Sanitisation Stations

Ensuring that essentials such as tissues and hand sanitiser are easily accessible to all employees, will help prevent the spread of bugs and viruses.

Not only that, but these stations will also do well to encourage good sanitisation habits for your employees. People never stop learning by example, so if you choose to implement this practice then be sure to use the stations yourself and your colleagues will follow your lead.

TIP 4:  Maintain the Tidiness of Communal Areas

Keeping the breakout spaces and kitchen areas in your office clean and tidy by all who use them, will prevent mess and the build up of nasty bacteria.

This doesn’t mean you have to ask your colleagues to roll up their sleeves and clean under sofa cushions, but it’s worth politely reminding them to wash up a dish if they use one, as well as wiping any crumbs off the table when they’re finished. It’s not just about sanitisation, but overall courtesy.

LGPS requirements are often misunderstood, yet they can have important financial and administrative implications for both schools and service providers. Understanding the basics early in the procurement process can help avoid delays, unexpected costs and compliance issues later on.
