Charity of the Year 2014/15

Suzanne Whitton • April 29, 2014

We are thrilled to announce that Rapid’s chosen charity of the year 2014/15 is Macmillan Cancer Support.

If you are not familiar with this charity, Macmillan are committed to providing Cancer patients with practical, medical, emotional and financial support, as well as pushing for better cancer care. This short video clip should give you a better idea of what Macmillan is all about:  Macmillan Cancer Support.

As Macmillan says, Cancer is the toughest fight that most of us will ever face. Current statistics show that one in three of us will get Cancer at some point in our lives and the number of Cancer patients is rising all the time. Macmillan provide a wonderful support to people who are thrown into a very frightening situation, often overnight. The good news is that the number of people overcoming Cancer is also increasing!

We were pleased to welcome Jan Harris (Macmillan’s fundraising manager for East Berkshire) to our company meeting last week, who inspired us and encouraged our brainstorming session…

What can RAPID do to help?

Rapid’s involvement is going to be two fold:

  1. Practically.  We recognise that people who are facing Cancer, will need practical help. What better way for us to provide support than by offering a cleaning service? Rapid’s aim is to donate £3.5k worth of cleaning over the year, to patients who would benefit from this kind of service.
  2. Financially.  Our employees are fired up and brimming with fundraising ideas. One has already signed up to an overnight climb of Ben Nevis and we have many more plans in the pipeline.

“By offering both practical help in the form of cleaning services and raising some money, we believe we can make a real difference to people’s lives.”   Jeff Whitton, Rapid’s Managing Director

What can YOU do to help?

This is the first year that Rapid has been involved in partnering with a charity. We are very excited to be making a difference to Cancer patients in this way and hope to have the support of both employees and customers.

If you are a customer then we intend to provide you with ways to get involved but if you’re reading this and have already been inspired, then please head over to our Just Giving page and be the first to donate!
